The Chaperone 103 mins

2957 The Chaperone

Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous early 1920’s, THE CHAPERONE is a period drama that is at once a coming-of-age tale and a classic mystery. A Kansas woman (Elizabeth McGovern, Downton Abbey) is forever changed when she chaperones a beautiful and talented 15-year-old dancer named Louise Brooks (Haley Lu Richardson, Split) to New York for the summer. One of them is eager to fulfill her destiny of dance and movie stardom; the other is on a mission to unearth the secrets of her past. Based on Laura Moriarty’s best-selling novel, THE CHAPERONE reunites the writer (Julian Fellowes), director (Michael Engler) and star of Downton Abbey.

Richardson harnesses Brooks’ boundless energy and infectious optimism as the very embodiment of Jazz Age social rebellion, even performing many of her own dance numbers with determined verve.
