What would the world look like if more women had a seat at the leadership table?
A story about leadership and the fight to tip the gender balance in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM), and beyond.
THE LEADERSHIP explores the web of obstacles women and girls face in STEM and beyond, through the stories of those determined to overcome them. At its heart, the film interrogates the gendered lens through which we see the world, and the very human and flawed nature of the leadership that shapes it.
In 2016, a voyage of 76 international scientists set sail for Antarctica under the guidance of an Australian corporate leadership coach. In a newly-Trump, pre-MeToo era, these inspirational women reveal the systemic and deeply personal challenges they face to maintain fulfilling careers in STEM. Set amongst the stunning backdrop of the world’s last untouched wilderness, the film demonstrates why we need diversity in STEM to solve the world’s most pressing problems. THE LEADERSHIP spans five continents over two years. The unforeseen challenges these women face both on board and beyond, mean the film ultimately asks: what do we need to change to make the world more equal – ourselves, or the systems and cultures that shape us?
