Join us on Friday July 26th for a 6:30 screening of I Am Mother followed by a discussion with very special guest, Perth director Grant Sputore!
Born of test tubes in a nuclear bunker, a lonely teen is the first of a new generation of humans raised by “Mother” – a kindly robot designed to repopulate the Earth following the extinction of humanity. When a blood-drenched woman inexplicably arrives, beating at the shelter door, the teen is put upon to take in the stranger and, consequently, finds herself at odds with her gear-and-piston parent. Overnight, the stranger casts doubt on Mother’s claims about the outside world and begins to unravel the fabric of their insular family. Unsure who to trust, the girl begins to probe into Mother’s dubious nature and uncover the truth of her greater mission.
"Grant has been one of Perth's hottest commercials directors for several years but was always destined for features. How he and his Penguin Empire partner Kelvin Munro came to pull off a Hollywood-backed first movie featuring a two-time Oscar winner in the lead and special effects by Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop is one of the great stories of Western Australian cinema. I can’t wait to watch I Am Mother on the big screen and talk to Grant about his journey from Curtin University to hot Hollywood property."

Sputore is an award-winning commercial director who was selected by the Australian Directors’ Guild to be a director’s attachment with Kriv Stenders on Kill Me Three Times in 2014 and made an impressive foray into scripted with his short film Legacy. I AM MOTHER is Sputore’s feature film debut.
“From its inception this is a film that was intended to get people’s hearts pounding and their brains firing, in equal measure ... Michael and I set out to create a screenplay that captures the excitement of the sci-fi thrillers we grew up watching, while exploring contemporary themes that would move, fascinate and enthrall audiences.”
