Veronika and Boris meet in Moscow shortly before World War II. They fall blissfully in love. As they walk along the river, they watch cranes fly overhead, and promise to rendezvous before Boris leaves to fight in the Second World War. Boris misses the meeting and is off to the front lines, while Veronika waits patiently, sending letters faithfully.  Lonely and emotionally fragile, Veronika is unable to wait out the war… The film instantly became an international success winning the Palme d'Or at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival, The Cranes Are Flying has just been digitally remastered, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the same spectacular sensation the film evoked upon its premier.  An experience that lovers of classic Soviet films can’t miss!
