COVID UPDATE: 15 February 2021
On Sunday February 14th, we returned to the Government’s Phase 4 capacity restrictions which sees all cinema auditoriums and foyer areas having to comply with the one person per two square metres rule. This maximum number of people allowed is calculated by dividing the total area (width, length, depth) of the auditorium by two.
The ramped-up cleaning procedures remain in place specifically targeting heavy traffic areas including doors, counters, in-cinema tables, cup holders, taps and menus. We are accepting cash but encourage customers to purchase tickets online and items through the candy bar using contactless payment methods. Hand sanitiser continues to be available throughout all our cinema’s foyers.
The mandatory contact register for staff and patrons is also still in place which, if required, will assist with the WA Department of Health’s contact tracing.
Luna Palace Cinemas is required to collect the date, name, telephone number and arrival time of all patrons, staff, visitors and contractors that attend the premises for reasons other than to collect takeaway. The contact register records must be kept for 28 days, and not used for any other purpose.
To assist businesses and venues, the WA Government has developed the free, SafeWA app, an online contact register system that uses QR codes for patrons and staff to register their attendance.
SafeWA can be downloaded from Apple App Store or Google Play. For those who can’t or do not wish to download the ap, you can prepurchase your tickets online or we will have a paper system that can be used in place of the app.

COVID UPDATE: 2nd July 2020
We are so pleased to be opening our doors again to the public. Currently, as we are operating on the Governments Phase 4 restrictions, all cinema auditoriums and foyer areas have had capacity reductions of 1 person per 2 square meters. This is worked out by multiplying the length of the auditorium by the width to calculate the area in square metres. Divide the area of the auditorium by 2 to calculate and that number becomes the maximum number of people allowed in that auditorium.
We have also have additional cleaning procedures in place that target heavy traffic areas including doors, counters, in cinema tables, cup holders, taps and menus. We are accepting cash but encourage customers to purchase tickets online and items through the candy bar using contactless payment methods.
We have hand sanitisers throughout the cinema foyers.
Thank you all for your continued support.
COVID UPDATE: 23 March 2020
In compliance with yesterday’s Government’s crackdown on social distancing for indoor venues resulting in the mandated closure of licenced clubs, pubs, cinemas, casinos, nightclubs and places of worship, Luna Palace Cinemas is now closed until further notice.
Cinema has always been a refuge during hard times but our primary concern is for the safety of our community so, although it's with a very heavy heart, we understand the necessity of these measures.
We are truly thankful to our wonderful staff and patrons and look forward to serving up the best independent cinema gems again soon. In the meantime, if there are any developments, we will update our website and Facebook page.
Advance purchased tickets are being automatically refunded. Gift vouchers for use in happier times are available online here.
And, we will be back! Until then, please stay safe and thank you for your much-appreciated support of Perth's leading independent cinemas.
Ingrid van den Berghe, Managing Director
Luna Palace Cinemas
COVID UPDATE: 22 March 2020
In compliance with today’s Government’s crackdown on indoor venues announcement, Luna Palace Cinemas will close, temporarily from tonight.
COVID UPDATE: 20 March 2020
It has just been announced that the social distance requirement has increased to four metres square. This means: “…there would be 4 square metres provided per person in an enclosed space, in a room. So that's 2 metres by 2 metres.” Source: abc.net.au.
Our current decreased attendances and the size and nature of our cinema auditoriums help us to comply to these new rulings and we have also calculated how many people we can safely cater to per cinema.
We have made further changes to the practices already put in place as outlined in the updates below, which include our front-of-house staff strictly monitoring the number of tickets sold and enforcing adherence to the new 2m x 2m rule.
Please continue to check our website for session times and any further updates.
Like so many other local businesses, we are dealing with unprecedented challenges. Thank you so very much to those of you who are still coming out to support us, we can't tell you how much we appreciate your loyalty and continued patronage in these very testing times.
COVID UPDATE: 18 March 2020
We feel truly humbled and buoyed by the overwhelming messages of support and your continued patronage in these trying times. Thank you so much for the love!
Returning the gesture, we want to reassure you that we’re still here for you with some much-needed respite in the form of pure big-screen escapism and inspiration. Our motivation is to keep staff employed and support you all in our wider community with some optimism in an increasingly pessimistic environment. We’re so very lucky to have a team who’s committed to our community ethos, genuinely love film and to delivering the best (and safest) experience for you.
And to set your mind at ease, please be assured that in accordance with the today's government guidelines banning public gatherings of over 100 people indoors, we have reduced the capacity of all our cinemas to adhere to that requirement.
COVID UPDATE: 16 March 2020
We take the health and welfare of our patrons and team very seriously at Luna Palace Cinemas. We would like to reassure you by advising of the extra precautionary measures we have put in place as we continue with business as usual.
Speaking yesterday (15 March) on the ABC’s Insiders programme alongside Health Minister Greg Hunt, chief medical officer Brendan Murphy said that social gatherings, such as “going to the movies and working out at the gym, were still fine as the risk in Australia was still relatively low".
We remain vigilant following the advice of the Australian Department of Health and will continue to monitor their advice and act immediately in accordance with their rulings and guidance.
To date, no incidence of COVID-19 has been reported within a Luna Palace Cinemas location. Along with our existing protocols, extra measures have been put in place as we continue to mitigate unnecessary risk.
These reinforced stringent precautionary measures are:
- Educating employees on important prevention measures via up-to-the-minute internal communications.
- In-cinema social distancing of 1.5m actively encouraged
- Signage and screen slide advertisements reinforcing health guideline practices like hand washing, sneezing/coughing etiquette and social distancing is visible in all our locations.
- Avoidance of any person with cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Hand sanitiser available at all sites (while stocks last). Although, as it is increasingly difficult to keep up with demand, please BYO if possible
- Thorough hourly disinfecting of all hard surfaces including doors, handles, bannister rails, counters, EFTPOS machines, tills etc.
- To limit the physical handling of cash, we encourage you to purchase tickets online and on-site, where possible, to use card payment.
- Staff with flu-like symptoms have been advised to self-isolate and seek medical advice.
If you have recently travelled overseas or have had contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if you are feeling unwell, particularly if you are manifesting flu-like symptoms, in the interests of containing the virus, please do not visit us until you have been tested or have recovered.
Thank you for your assistance. Luna Palace Cinemas will continue to monitor the Department of Health alerts and provide any important updates as soon as they are available.
Lastly, thank you for your continued support of Luna Palace Cinemas. It is our commitment to remain a safe and welcoming entertainment destination.
