Are you feeling lucky?  We'll give you a leg up with complimentary fortune cookies when you buy a ticket on the opening sessions of Lucky Grandma (while stocks last).
In the heart of Chinatown, New York, an ornery, chain-smoking, newly widowed 80-year-old grandma is eager to live life as an independent woman, despite the worry of her family.

When a local fortune teller (Wai Ching Ho) predicts a most auspicious day in her future, grandma (Tsai Chin) decides to head to the casino and goes all in, only to land herself on the wrong side of luck…suddenly attracting the attention of some local gangsters. Desperate to protect herself, grandma employs the services of a bodyguard from a rival gang (Corey Ha) and soon finds herself right in the middle of a Chinatown gang war.

Legendary actor Tsai Chin (Joy Luck Club) plays a character we rarely see beyond stereotypes or comic relief and plays grandma with verve, sensitivity and snark. Meanwhile, director Sasie Sealy brings to life a dark comedy about immigrant life, the vulnerabilities of ageing and an unexpected friendship. Set in alleyways and underground mahjong parlours with a cast of richly drawn characters, Lucky Grandma is a love letter to Chinatown and a homage to all the badass elderly women who inhabit it.

"Chin is plainly the film's greatest asset, a terrific actor with great comic timing." Variety

"A crowd-pleaser with a slyly magnetic lead performance." The Hollywood Reporter

"What ultimately makes it all work so well is Tsai Chin's endearingly gruff performance." New York Magazine/Vulture

"The range of emotions that play across her face when she realizes she's gambled away all her money is a master class in the art of acting." LA Weekly

"Filled with twists and turns akin to an early Guy Ritchie flick, [director Sasie] Sealy and [co-writer Angela] Cheng craft a tale that's hilarious and action-packed with just the right amount of heart." Elements of Madness

"A wickedly entertaining dark comedy, steeped in the colours and characters of New York City's Chinatown." Indiewire

"This is such a stylish and sharp movie with such a strong sense of the setting... I had so much fun with this." FilmWeek

"Wild sass, gentle comedy, shivs of poignancy, and instantly vivid characters add up to a wonderful riff on mob movies as a Chinatown granny faces off against gangsters. Tsai Chin is an absolute hoot." Flick Filosopher

"Co-writer/director Sasie Sealy's debut feature is a wild ride ... grounded by a great, understated performance from Tsai Chin." Mark Reviews Movies

"An outrageously funny, unquestionably cool black comedy." Slashfilm

"If you're a fan of comedy, Asian cinema or both, you will almost definitely love this movie. It's a unique fast-paced film that'll be sure to entertain even the most pernickety of audiences." Film Threat

Tsai Chin is a sardonic tour de force as a chainsmoking grandma who falls into some cash in this entertaining and smart dark comedy.
