The Wasteland is an elegant piece of chiaroscuro cinema that is as powerful as it is unpretentious, brimming with thought-provoking performances of the human experience.

This story is set in a remote manufacturing facility that produces bricks using an ancient method. Many families with different ethnicities work in the factory and the boss seems to hold the key to solving their problems. Forty-year-old Lotfollah, who was born on-site, is the factory supervisor and acts as a proxy between the workers and the boss. The boss has Lotfollah gather all the workers in front of his office to announce the closure of the factory. All that matters now to Lotfollah is to keep Sarvar unharmed, the woman he has been in love with for a long time.

Screening with a short film TBC

Director's statement: "My father was a worker in an industrial factory and he became retired after thirty years of hard work. I am proud of him and since I learned filmmaking, I have always wanted to make a film about him and his honourable efforts. My film Dashte Khamoush is a tribute to my father and all hardworking workers around the globe; without their efforts, human civilisation would not have achieved this level of progress."
