In 1940 France, 12-year-old Rolf (Julius Weckauf), his journalist father Ludwig (Volker Bruch, Babylon Berlin) and his dog Adi are stranded in Marseilles and being persecuted by the Nazis. Rolf and Ludwig’s guessing game of "Good or Bad? – Dissident or Collaborator?” soon turns deadly serious when they increasingly have to face inspectors and officials in Nazi-controlled Europe.
The only way to freedom and their plan of escape to New York is a steep path leading from Southern France through the Pyrenees to Spain. Nuria, a girl only slightly older than Rolf, offers to guide them along the hazardous path. When Ludwig is arrested en route, Rolf and Núria are suddenly all on their own. On the path, the two children must stick together and rely on one another – if they want to survive.
Directed by Tobias Wiemann (Mountain Miracle - An Unexpected Friendship), based on Rüdiger Bertram’s novel and inspired by true events, The Path is a compassionate tale of courage, solidarity and friendship for young and old.
“Tells the thrilling story of a great friendship.” KinderFilmWelt
