SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE

Feature Narrative

1972/USA/104min.Rated M. Directed by George Roy Hill

Adapted from Kurt Vonnegut’s cult novel, Slaughterhouse-Five premiered at Cannes and won the Jury Prize.

Directed by George Roy Hill (director of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting – for which he won the Oscar, Slapshot, and The World According to Garp among others) the film tells the story of Billy Pilgrim a man who becomes ‘unstuck in time’ and shifts throughout his own life, from New York to the Second World War, and into space on the planet Tralfamadore.

With Michael Sacks and Valerie Perrine, the film is rarely seen on the big screen and remains one of the highlights of seventies cinema.

“A Cannes winner of the time, Slaughterhouse-Five is one of the best grown-up movies you’ve never seen, a wise, satirical and important story that sees several great talents realise a difficult text.” – Film Authority
