From writer-director James Vanderbilt (Truth, The Long Walk), Nuremberg chronicles the complex efforts to hold those responsible for history’s most heinous crimes to account.
Spring 1945: Hitler is dead, and several high-ranking Nazi officials have been captured, including the eerily charismatic Hermann Göring (Crowe). U.S. Army psychiatrist Lt. Colonel Douglas Kelley (Malek) is called in to evaluate the captives, seeking to psychologically define evil and ensure such atrocities are never repeated — while gathering material for a potential bestseller.
Meanwhile, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson (Shannon) is tasked with forming an international tribunal, believing even the world’s most notorious criminals deserve a fair trial. Jackson and Kelley must navigate Göring’s charisma and narcissism to reveal his true nature to the world.
Based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 non-fiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, Nuremberg is elevated by extraordinary performances, particularly from Crowe and Malek. The battle may be over, but the psychological war has only just begun.
Screening from November 7 at Luna Leederville, Luna on SX, and the Windsor.
