Synopsis
Fresh and unsettling, Good Boy is an intense and unforgettable genre-bending thriller that unfolds like a dark fairy tale. This latest from Academy Award–nominated director Jan Komasa (Corpus Christi), is produced by legendary filmmakers Jeremy Thomas, Ewa Piaskowska, and Jerzy Skolimowski (Four Nights with Anna).
Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough star as a couple who kidnap a young delinquent with the aim of training him to become a 'good boy'.
In this thriller from Polish Oscar nominee Jan Komasa (Corpus Christi), Tommy (Anson Boon), 19, lives a delinquent lifestyle, going on benders and hooking up. One night, he is kidnapped and wakes up chained in the basement of a wealthy family, Chris (Graham), his wife Kathryn (Riseborough), and his son, Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). Under Chris's strict control, Tommy is punished for misbehaving and can only eat at the dinner table if he's a 'good boy'. But as Tommy learns more about his captors, instead of dissenting, he learns to assimilate – and feels his collar loosen. Produced by legends Jeremy Thomas (Rabbit-Proof Fence) and Jerzy Skolimowski (EO), The Good Boy has the twisted psychological spirit of the Greek New Wave.
By raising uncomfortable questions about freedom, this daring film challenges our expectations about what we accept as normal.

Reviews
“With high-concept provocations and talking points that feel like something from the age of Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange or Ôshima’s Max Mon Amour.”
[Komasa] brings enough visual polish to the material to keep you in the palm of his hand.”
“By keeping some of its cards close to its chest, [The Good Boy] respects our intelligence, which helps it to earn its sneakily moving ending.”
