MetOpera25: Fidelio

Don’t miss your chance to experience Beethoven's gripping drama Fidelio when the opera, recorded earlier this month, comes to Luna Leederville and Luna on SX.

The “remarkably luminous” soprano Lise Davidsen stars as Leonore, one of opera’s most courageous heroines, who risks everything to save her husband from the clutches of tyranny. The Met’s “fresh-as-ever” production, led with “clarity, drive, and insight” by Maestro Susanna Mälkki, finds modern-day parallels in Beethoven’s stirring paean to freedom.

Tenor David Butt Philip is the political prisoner Florestan, alongside bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as the villainous Don Pizarro, veteran bass René Pape as the jailer Rocco, and soprano Ying Fang and tenor Magnus Dietrich as the young Marzelline and Jaquino.
