n 2006, television host Chris Hansen set out to make television history with To Catch a Predator, the controversial Dateline NBC series that turned confronting suspected paedophiles into prime-time entertainment. Now, Lance Oppenheim’s audacious first narrative feature revisits the phenomenon through a darkly comic examination of media spectacle, public shaming and performative justice.

Robert Pattinson stars as Hansen, a driven and increasingly unhinged television host determined to expose wrongdoers — and secure the ratings that come with it. As the boundaries between journalism, entertainment and moral crusading begin to blur, Primetime asks what happens when the pursuit of justice becomes a show, and outrage becomes the product.

Starring Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers, Primetime is a mordantly funny and unsettling portrait of a media culture where the line between holding people accountable and exploiting their downfall can be dangerously thin.
