On the programme: A Double Bill of Distinguished Adaptations
First, at the hour appointed (6:30pm):
SENSE & SENSIBILITY (1995) | G
A most affecting and exquisitely rendered tale of two sisters -- the prudent and composed Elinor, and the impassioned and romantic Marianne Dashwood -- as they encounter the trials and triumphs of love, inheritance, and society. With Miss Emma Thompson (who is also credited with the most lauded script), Miss Kate Winslet, Mr. Hugh Grant and the esteemed Mr. Alan Rickman, under the direction of the celebrated Mr. Ang Lee, this motion picture has been heralded far and wide for its elegance and sincerity of feeling.
A brief intermission (15 minutes) shall ensue, during which refreshments may be purchased and lively discourse is encouraged.
EMMA (2020) | PG
The effervescent Miss Emma Woodhouse, possessed of beauty, wealth, and a most decided confidence in her matchmaking abilities, soon discovers that matters of the heart are not so easily directed. In this resplendent and stylish rendition directed by Madame Autumn de Wilde, the beloved heroine is brought forth anew with Miss Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role, joined by Mr. Josh O’Connor and Miss Mia Goth, all arrayed in the most sumptuous attire that modern cinema affords.
Come dressed in your finest Regency fashion and celebrate a lady whose pen captured the follies and triumphs of the human heart with unparalleled charm.
