Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition with Bonus Footage
Synopsis
BACKROOMS: Everything Must Go Edition with Bonus Footage (16 mins)
From Thursday July 2 new bonus footage will play after the credits.
A startlingly assured feature debut from director Kane Parsons, Backrooms bends the liminal spaces that have haunted the internet for years into a horror film that's as mesmerising as it is terrifying.
At an ordinary, discount furniture store, a strange doorway appears in the basement. An employee, Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), investigates and discovers a sprawling, seemingly infinite, maze of sickly yellow, fluorescent-lit rooms. He quickly becomes obsessed with the place, venturing deeper and deeper into "the Backrooms".
Upon telling his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline (Renate Reinsve), about his discovery, she is hesitant to accept that what he saw was actually real. Attempting to prove its existence, Clark sets out to document footage of the Backrooms.
Screening at Luna Leederville from May 28.

Reviews
With its distinctive visual imagination and sophisticated understanding of fear's quieter registers, Backrooms transforms digital folklore into an absorbing cinematic experience.
Parsons possesses a rare ability to translate the absurd and deeply unsettling mythology of the online world into a cinematic language that feels entirely his own.
A stirring horror effort that heralds the arrival of a promising new genre filmmaker.
