Synopsis
Charli xcx stars as a British tourist crisscrossing Warsaw with an old friend in this effervescent indie that’s equally roiling with emotion.
Bethany (pop music icon Charli xcx) is a London gal who’s arrived in Warsaw with her boyfriend Rob. He believes he’s in for a romantic getaway culminating in a picturesque marriage proposal, but Bethany has other ideas. She wastes no time peeling off to track down an old friend, Nel, who runs a flower shop and with whom she shares a uniquely electric connection. Through the lens of their mutual infatuation – teetering on romance – the city shimmers with party-girl possibility.
Fresh from her star turn in The Moment, a deglammed Charli proves a magnetic screen presence; Erupcja is similarly buoyed by vivid performances from Will Madden, Lena Góra and Jeremy O. Harris (The Sweet East) as Claude, an artist friend of Nel’s who takes on the role of Rob’s bemused but kindly babysitter. In shaping the project together with his cast, US-born Warsaw-based director Pete Ohs has created an intimate, bittersweet paean to his adoptive home – a film that bubbles with understated eruptive potential.
