Synopsis

Australian premiere

Un cabo suelto

Directed by Daniel Hendler, A Loose End is a black comedy thriller and frontier story about a policeman in a sticky situation who experiences love, adventure and danger on the border of Argentina and Uruguay.

Santiago, a corporal in the Argentine police force, crosses the border into Uruguay seeking refuge and fleeing his fellow police officers. Using his uniform, he inspects regional food stalls, sampling delicious cheeses and sausages for sustenance, while otherwise trying to go unnoticed.

Without money or lodging but with plenty of kindness, empathy and wit, he begins to plot out his future. Receiving help from the local characters he encounters along the way, he meets a woman who he soon comes to believe may even be the love of his life.

Seamlessly blending elements of police thriller, western and romantic comedy, this engaging film explores the fantasy of being a different person and starting life again from scratch in a foreign land.
