Synopsis
Australian premiere
Homo Argentum
A smash box office hit in Argentina, Homo Sapiens is a sharp and entertaining satire anthology about identity, human behaviour and modern life, from Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (Official Competition).
Inspired by Italian comedies from the 1960s and ’70s, Homo Sapiens? presents a collection of satirical stories, featuring remarkable performances by Guillermo Francella (My Masterpiece, The Heist of the Century).
Transforming himself like an Argentine social chameleon, Francella embodies everyday people, portraying different slices of human behaviour, introducing characters who are ambiguous, endearing, or miserable, yet recognisable. From middle-class double standards to soccer obsession, excessive political correctness to the art of playing the fool, this black comedy entertains but passes no moral judgements.
Underlying each story is a perspective full of humour and irony, with each tale reflecting the quirks of modern daily life. Inviting us to reflect on identity, idiosyncrasy, customs, and human behaviour, this fierce and hilarious satire cements Cohn and Duprat as masters of dark humour.
