SPA26: Luger
Book Tickets
Synopsis
Australian premiere
Written and directed by Bruno Martín in his feature film debut, Luger is a darkly comic, slick crime thriller that proudly doffs the cap to Tarantino, Ritchie, De Palma and Coppola. Set over a single frenetic day, two antiheroes battle their fate amidst corruption and betrayal in a crumbling, labyrinthine Spanish city.
Sharp-tongued Canary Islander, Rafa (David Sainz) solves problems, debts, and legal issues, but he longs to give up his tumultuous life and return to Las Palmas in search of redemption.
Rafa and Toni (Mario Mayo) are small-time hustlers working for Angela, a lawyer of dubious morals, who finds quick fixes for her clients. She has hired Rafa and Toni to find the stolen car of Juan, a desperate businessman. When they locate the car at a shady mechanics workshop, the duo discovers a WWII relic hidden inside a locked safe in the boot, which could be worth a fortune. But what seems like a windfall quickly spirals into a chain of betrayal, standoffs and escalating violence.
