REV25: EIGHT POSTCARDS FROM UTOPIA
Book Tickets
Synopsis
Radu Jude, best known for Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn and Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, returns with this experimental essay film constructed from Romanian adverts from the decades following the end of communism.
What emerges from this juxtaposition of adverts is a strange poetry of socialism and capitalism, humans and human experience, national identity, consumption, freedom, and much more.
Co-directed with philosopher Christian Ferencz-Flatz, this experimental documentary – divided into a series of chapters – functions as cultural criticism, social history, philosophical contemplation and a strange sort of nostalgic comedy.

Reviews
It’s a terrific little film.
There is no corner that Radu Jude doesn’t cover in Eight Postcards from Utopia, with his acerbic touch shining through in a resourceful and head-spinning experimental film.
